Happy Birthday Delores!

A very special Happy Birthday wish to my wife Delores. She hits the big 60 September 1.

I’ve been lucky enough to spend almost 23 of those years with her.

A Rant on Courtesy…

We had an appointment for 6 pm this evening for Washington Energy Services to come to the house and estimate a full replacement system for our furnace. More than likely several thousand dollars of work. At 6:55 pm, the guy calls to say he’s just leaving his previous appointment and won’t be here for another 15-20 minutes (can I really believe that?).

Told him to just go ahead and go on home and we’d call the company to reset an appointment. Maybe if they can make us a heck of a deal we’ll consider using them instead of one of the many other companies in the Everett area who provide the same service.

What I want to know; if he had a cell phone available to call me at 6:55 pm why couldn’t he have used that cell phone an hour earlier to tell us what was going on? Is that not a common courtesy?

The Heat is Gone & the Bird Show

As of 10 minutes ago, it was 69F at Paine Field airport, just a couple of miles from the house. That is 35 degrees cooler than last Wednesday at this time. Let’s hope this continues. Not only are my birds happier, but I am much, much happier when the weather is cooler.

We had a great bird show this past weekend in Kelso. So far in 2009 it was the largest budgie show sanctioned by the American Budgerigar Society in the US. We had 234 birds entered in the show, including some from California and some from Canada. Again this year, the Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center in Kelso really went all out to make for an enjoyable experience for all the exhibitors.

The winner was a light green cock bird owned and exhibited by Larry Harrell from Bremerton. If you’d like to see some of the photos from the show, you can find them on my Flickr page.
